Recently, I had a strange flashback to Choking Victim's song "500 Channels," as it taught me the word 'sycophant'
when I was 16 years old. That word showed up in Brock Holmes' closing number to this year's Hexagon show "Stars
and Gripes Forever." I asked him where he fished that word from for his lyrics; he admitted there was a rhyming dictionary
somewhere in there. At this point in the musical comedy revue's run, I'm willing to forgive it. The show's been
going so well, and there's still 8 performances left, and I don't think any shows are sold out yet, though the two
Saturday and Sunday shows remaining are pretty close, so get your tickets now if you want to see it.
For those
of you who aren't familiar,
Hexagon is a non-profit organization that puts on a big musical comedy revue every year. It's written by and geared towards an
older audience, which is appropriate given the whole Capital Steps-type aesthetic. Granted, a vast majority of Hexagon's
material is original, unlike the C.S. schlockmeisters. I've been trying to get Hexagon to start a massive beef with Capitol
Steps, but these people are too "sophisticated." Fortunately, there's enough irreverent stuff in this year's
show "Stars & Gripes" forever to make for quality entertainment.
The long and short of it is, you
should come and check it out. It all goes to a worthy cause, just make sure to let me know if you're coming so I come
out and say hi after the show. Here are the details, kids.
